Ukrainian wheat exports at the heart of discussions

Asked about the subject at a press conference in Ankara ​(Turkey), Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says he is ready to set up secure corridors to get Ukrainian grain out of the country. If no announcement of a precise mechanism has been made, Russia can count on the support of Turkey. The two countries want to secure a passage between Ukrainian floating mines in the Black Sea. A decision that leaves Ukrainian power skeptical, despite Moscow’s promise not to attack by sea.

According to President Zelensky, nearly 20 to 25 million tons of wheat cannot currently leave the country. This figure could rise to 75 million tonnes in the fall, estimates the Ukrainian president. A critical situation for the countries dependent on this resource while the UN mentions a risk of deadly famine for millions of people. For the moment, Ukrainian wheat is exported in dribs and drabs by rail.
