Under tension for several days, the city of Kherson is a strategic point of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict. Ukrainian soldiers are hopeful of retaking the city from Russian forces within two weeks.
On the left bank of the Dnieper, the Ukrainian forces continue to put pressure on the right bank, occupied by the Russians. Our journalist Maryse Burgot is alongside Ukrainian soldiers on the front line. “We are on a Ukrainian position, in the Kherson region, about twenty kilometers from the Russian positions. If on the Russian side it is time to evacuate civilians, the Ukrainian soldiers are only thinking of attacking.”
Apart from their firm intention to be offensive, the Ukrainian forces have set themselves a specific deadline to retake the city: “We followed the mobile rocket launcher unit. They targeted fire on tanks and guns. The Russians are no longer moving in convoys. The Ukrainian soldiers with whom we spent the day hope that the city of Kherson will be taken back from the Russians in the next fortnight”reports Maryse Burgot.
