The initiative was launched by the management of the Hotel Labelle in Montreal, where the mother of little Maria had worked since her arrival in Quebec. It is Yuliya Belkina-Novikova, a Ukrainian who also hired the mother of the deceased girl who is the instigator of this Go Fund Me.
“I hired her when she arrived here, I helped her find her job,” Yuliya said, noting that the family has only been here about four months. The father remained in Ukraine. “She is here alone with the children, it is difficult for her,” says Yuliya.
The woman has tried to support the family as best she can since the tragedy that occurred yesterday morning at the start of classes at the corner of Rouen and Partenais streets. “She is shocked. This is the case when the person does not understand what happened”, explains Yuliya.
It was after talking with the mother of the child that the management of the hotel where she works decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign. “I spoke to him yesterday and I called him today to help him organize the funeral,” adds the employer.
Other groups within Montreal’s Ukrainian community were also setting up a fund to help the bereaved family.
The campaign currently online is linked to members of the management of the Hotel Labelle in Montreal. “It’s our director and I, we called each other and she’s going to take care of that,” confirms Yuliya.
