Ukrainian diplomacy announces suspending its consular services for men of fighting age

The objective is to bring back citizens of fighting age to the country, by ceasing the renewal of identity documents and other important administrative procedures.

Ukraine suspends consular services abroad for men aged 18 to 60, announced Ukrainian diplomacy, Tuesday April 23. The objective is to bring back citizens of fighting age to the country, by ceasing the renewal of identity documents and other important administrative procedures. A “mechanism to update and verify information on their military situation” is under development, according to the press release.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a temporary suspension of the receipt of new applications for consular services regarding the mentioned category of Ukrainian citizens,” can we read in the press release, which specifies that this measure only concerns men aged 18 to 60. Furthermore, only the provision of “identity cards to enter Ukraine” is maintained for this category of men.

Make up for the lack of soldiers

kyiv, which has been fighting the Russian invasion for two years, is in dire need of soldiers, especially as the Ukrainian army expects Moscow to launch a new offensive in the coming weeks or months. Ukraine prohibits men of fighting age from traveling abroad, with few exceptions. But according to media estimates, tens of thousands of men have fled the country illegally to avoid going to the front.

“The mechanism for updating and verifying information on the military situation of men aged 18 to 60 temporarily abroad is being determined”, Ukrainian diplomacy declared on Tuesday. She specifies that “additional explanations” will be broadcast once this intelligence work has been completed and the men whose military situation is “valid” will once again be able to benefit from consular services.
