Tuesday February 8, Emmanuel Macron met his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky. The French president said he was satisfied with his exchange with Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before, and estimated that there is now a way to advance the peace negotiations. However, he did not obtain a commitment on the withdrawal of Russian troops to the Ukrainian border.

This Tuesday February 8, Emmanuel Macron met his Ukrainian counterpart for the first time, Volodymyr Zelensky. The French president reiterated his support for Ukraine, assuring that France “is determined to tirelessly pursue its mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine to end the conflict.”

The day before, in Moscow, during the meeting between Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Poutine, the speech was less serene. Around a huge table, the two heads of state spoke for five hours. If Vladimir Putin said not to close the door to compromise, while more than 120,000 Russian soldiers are installed on the Ukrainian border, the Russian president has also been threatening. He thus asserted that if Ukraine joined NATO, Europe would be drawn into a conflict. Tuesday, February 8, in the evening, Emmanuel Macron must meet with the German Chancellor.
