“With each passing day, the cost of America’s inaction grows for the brave Ukrainians on the front lines.” Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser in the United States, declared on Wednesday February 14, “hearing more and more often that the Ukrainian army is rationing ammunition, or even in short supply on the front”, by calling on the American Congress to vote “quickly” new aid for Ukraine.

Ukrainians “will find themselves in a weaker position if they do not receive the munitions, air defense systems and other equipment they need”, he added. Ukraine’s new commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrsky assessed the situation on the battlefield on Wednesday “extremely complex”, after a first trip to the front, Ukraine lacking men and weapons in the face of the Russian invader.

The Republican leader of the House of Representatives refused to put to a vote a bill for American aid to Ukraine which had just been adopted by the Senate, the other component of the American Congress. Without the adoption of a new package, American aid to the Ukrainian army, interrupted since the end of December, will not resume.
