The few images that have reached us, widely broadcast by pro-Russian media, show the destruction of the dozen tanks and armoured vehicles taken by the Ukrainian forces. But is this operation really a failure?

The Ukrainian offensive is therefore a tactical pressure move aimed at destabilizing the Russian general staff, with expected psychological repercussions. “It’s good for the morale of Ukrainians,” analysis Guillaume Ancel.

The incursion is expected to be temporary. Authorities on both sides of the border have already called for the evacuation of populations, predicting a deluge of fire in the coming days, and the withdrawal of Ukrainian brigades from the area.
