Saturday, May 14, Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest. The country at war received strong support from the European public.
Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday May 14 in Turin (Italy). The title was written by one of the singers in homage to his mother. The song has become a patriotic emblem in Ukraine. The United Kingdom has long believed in victory. But the crowd awarded Ukraine more than 400 points, lifting them from ninth to first place. “I can’t describe how proud I am to be Ukrainian”assures a woman. “We have the support of all of Europe and the whole world, we are not alone”adds another.
On Twitter, President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted after his country’s victory. “Next year Ukraine will host Eurovision […] We will ensure that it is in Mariupol, free, peaceful, rebuilt”, he says. The French group Alvan and Ahez finished penultimate with their title Fulennsung in Breton.
