Ukraine War, Day 940 | Zelensky Says He ‘Hopefully’ Biden Will Support His Plan to End War

(Kyiv) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday he “hopes” that Joe Biden will support his plan to end the war with Russia, which he is due to present to him next week during a trip to the United States.

“I really hope that he will support this plan” which is based on “rapid decisions by our partners” to be taken “between October and December,” Zelensky said at a press conference in Kyiv on the occasion of the visit of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

“In this case, we believe that this plan will work,” the Ukrainian president said.

He recently announced the preparation of this “victory plan” after two and a half years of Russian invasion of his country, but never revealed the details.

The Ukrainian head of state will be received on September 26 at the White House by Joe Biden and, separately, by Vice President Kamala Harris, Democratic candidate for the presidential election on November 5.

Mr Zelensky also said he wanted to “understand” Republican candidate Donald Trump’s vision of the war in Ukraine, a possible victory of which could undermine US military support, which is crucial for Kyiv.

“I want to understand how he sees it,” said Zelensky, who plans to meet the ex-president during his trip to the United States.

Trump’s aides have already suggested that if he wins, they will use American aid as leverage to force Kyiv to make territorial concessions.

While the Biden administration has pledged to do everything to ensure Ukraine’s victory against Russia, Donald Trump has repeatedly said he could quickly “end” this war, a phrase that worries Kyiv.

Mr Zelensky also stressed his desire to hold a second peace summit this year, “a summit that can end this war”.

“Peace is not about freezing war or manipulating international law and morality. Peace must be secure and it will be secure,” he stressed.
