Ukraine: several strong explosions and columns of smoke in Kyiv

Several loud explosions were heard at dawn on Wednesday in Kyiv, followed by columns of black smoke in the sky, AFP noted, as the Russian army has intensified its fire against Ukrainian cities in recent days.

Around 6 a.m. (5 a.m. GMT), at least three strong explosions sounded in the west of the capital, already targeted the day before and placed since under curfew until Thursday morning.

Several thick columns of black smoke were observed shortly after in the sky of the city, like the day before, where several Russian strikes had hit residential buildings.

Other explosions were heard in the early morning.

No assessment or details were given immediately by the local authorities, while the press was not allowed to circulate in the city, under tension, because of the curfew.

On Tuesday, at least four people were killed and around 40 others rescued in an apartment building in a western district of kyiv, Svyatoshin, after a Russian strike which caused a fire, according to local authorities. At least two other attacks left several people injured in the city.

Three weeks after invading Ukraine, the Russian army has intensified its fire in recent days, targeting in particular cities where fighting is raging such as Kharkiv (north), the suburbs of kyiv, Mariupol (south) or Mykolaiv (south) , but also the west of the country.
