Ukraine has “evidence” of the use by Russian forces of cluster munitions, weapons banned by international conventions, in two southern regions of its territory, assured Monday the Ukrainian Prosecutor General, Iryna Venediktova .
Asked during a press conference about the possible use of such weapons to bomb kyiv, Ms.me Venediktova replied that she had “no concrete evidence” of their use in the capital and that “investigations” were underway.
” Corn […] we have evidence of the use of cluster bombs in the Odessa region and in the Kherson region”, a city seized by the Russian army, she immediately added.
“We see, especially thanks to your work, to you journalists, that other prohibited weapons are used, but, as far as I am concerned, I can only mention the cases in which I have evidence on a very concrete basis. , when I have for example […] fragments [de ces engins] or a soil test,” she continued, without providing further details.
International NGOs such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have claimed to have gathered evidence of the use of cluster munitions in areas hosting civilians in Ukraine.
These weapons can contain several dozen mini-bombs that scatter over a wide area, but not all of them explode, turning into anti-personnel mines which, at the slightest contact, can kill and maim even long after the conflicts.
