Ukraine is trying to counter Russia’s influence in Africa. The Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs inaugurated a Ukrainian embassy in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Thursday April 11, after doing the same in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Wednesday.

“A new brilliant page is being written in the new history of Ukrainian-African and Ukrainian-Ivorian relations”, welcomed Maksym Soubkh in his inauguration speech. “We consider Ivory Coast to be one of the most promising trade partners of Ukraine in sub-Saharan Africa.” And “one of the leaders of the West African region”, he continued. For “to bring back to life” its relations with Africa, Ukraine plans to open several more embassies on the continent.

For his part, the Ivorian Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs in charge of African integration and Ivorians abroad, Wautabouna Ouattara, estimated that this inauguration in Abidjan “illustrates the quality of the links and cooperation that unite [les] two countries since the establishment of our diplomatic relations in 1992.”.
