Ukraine | A chimpanzee escaped from the zoo returns there, convinced by a raincoat

A chimpanzee, who was seen wandering the streets of the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Monday, September 5, was persuaded by a zoo employee to enter.

Posted at 9:33 a.m.

According to local media, the animal, known as Chichi, undid the protective fence and easily opened the locks of the enclosure, then went for a walk in town. What really persuaded him to return to the zoo was his favorite yellow raincoat as the rain started to fall.

According to media reports, this was not the first time the chimpanzee had tried to escape, but he was always carried home by zoo staff.

Chichi was placed in a new enclosure at Kharkiv Zoo after Russian forces bombed the Ecopark, the chimpanzee’s previous home.

Several animals have been taken to new shelters across Ukraine following the Russian assault on Ukraine.
