As France has done with six new EPRs desired by Emmanuel Macron by 2050, the United Kingdom has chosen nuclear power. The country could thus build up to seven power plants by 2050 while betting on offshore wind power as part of a new strategy to increase its energy independence, said Sunday, April 3 the Minister of Energy, Kwasi Kwarteng, in the Sunday Telegraph.

“We don’t want to live in a world where we depend on Russian hydrocarbons.”

According to the newspaper, after intense internal discussions, the government of Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to present its strategy on Thursday to reduce the UK’s energy dependence and achieve the goal of net zero emissions by 2050. “There is a realization within the government that we could do more on nuclear matters.said Kwasi Kwarteng. “It won’t happen in the next two years, but it’s definitely what we can aspire to.”
