On the other side of the Channel, there have been very tough strike movements since June. In a country where inflation reaches 10% over one year, transport workers are demanding wage increases.

Station grids closed, almost no metro in London (United Kingdom), nor overground, the equivalent of the RER, Friday August 19. The capital is paralyzed, many employees cannot go to work, and tourists have to change their plans. Already the day before, trains were at a standstill across the United Kingdom. Strikes have followed one another since the end of June. Employees in the transport sector are asking for salary increases in line with inflation: 10.1% in one year.

The British are often understanding, sometimes annoyed, around the buses which circulate, but which are taken by storm. “They want their salary to increase, like inflation, but everyone wants that”, said a man. The United Kingdom is affected by record inflation in 40 years: + 12% on food for example, and energy prices could triple in 12 mgo. Enough to explode social anger. The unions are held responsible for the paralysis in transport by the Conservative government.
