The British government wants to facilitate the reception of Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war. On Monday March 14, he set up a website for Britons wishing to host them at home. Criticized for its slowness and the low number of visas granted – 4,000 according to the latest figures – as well as the complexity of the initial process, the government of Prime Minister Boris Johnson is thus working to correct the trajectory.
People who decide to host Ukrainian refugees will receive 350 pounds (418 euros) per month and must commit to hosting these refugees for at least six months. Beneficiary refugees, who will need to obtain a visa, will be able to live and work in the United Kingdom for up to three years, as well as benefit from social benefits.
89,000 applicants
For the sake of speed, the program will first try to “facilitate partnerships” with refugees and hosts who already have connections, before expanding it “quickly” in particular thanks to associations, explained before the Parliament the secretary of State Michael Gove, in charge of this file.
The day after the launch of this reception programme, nearly 89,000 people expressed their wish to host Ukrainian refugees in their homes, according to figures communicated to AFP by the ministry in charge of this file.
