UK Defense Secretary wants North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) leaders to consider accelerating Ukraine’s membership of military alliance at meeting next month in Lithuania.

Ben Wallace met with Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand in London on Thursday.

Mr Wallace thinks the 31-member NATO should consider allowing Ukraine to skip the membership action plan part of the process, given the strength and size of its military.

Ms. Anand said that Canada supports Ukraine’s NATO membership when the conditions are right, and that the country must first win its war against Russia.

Mr Wallace also defended Canada, which has so far failed to meet the NATO commitment to spend 2% of its GDP on defence, saying it is important that countries move forward in the right direction. direction.

NATO members have still not agreed on Sweden’s membership in the alliance, an issue Canada hopes will be resolved before the summit begins on July 11.
