Buganda is a thousand-year-old monarchy. It still administers more than 14,000 people. The royal tomb of Kasubi, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, has just been restored.
The royal tomb of Kasubi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been reconstructed. In 2010, a fire ravaged this sacred monument, located in Kampala, Uganda. This iconic symbol represents Buganda, since it houses the remains of the kingdom’s four greatest rulers. This thousand-year-old monarchy still administers more than 14,000 people. Thirteen years were necessary to rebuild this sacred place, respecting royal tradition.
The heart of the capital
A task taken extremely seriously by each person who worked on the site, as if it were their life’s work. The site is due to open to the public in 2024, but the tombs will remain hidden. Their visit is prohibited by the laws of the kingdom. The Ugandan capital, Kampala, was built around these lands 130 years ago. Since then, Buganda has remained located in the very heart of the city.
