83% of French people live in a medical desert when it comes to consulting a general practitioner, a pediatrician, a gynecologist or an ophthalmologist, without exceeding fees. The UFC Que Choisir has decided to denounce government inaction by contacting the Council of State.

The UFC Que Choisir is sounding the alert on medical deserts. The consumer association is launching a petition entitled “I accuse” which calls into question the inaction of the State. Indeed, in access to care, the French are not all equal. Tuesday, November 21, the UFC Que Choisir seized the Council of State to have it noted and sanctioned government inaction. 83% of French people live in a medical desert when it comes to consulting a general practitioner, a pediatrician, a gynecologist or an ophthalmologist, without exceeding fees.

One in three children lives in a pediatric medical desert

One in five patients have difficult access to general practitioners. In addition, nearly one in three children lives in a pediatric medical desert. Some patients, discouraged, no longer even consider consulting a doctor. Faced with medical deserts, the UFC Que Choisir calls into question the stubborn refusal of the authorities to regulate the installation of doctors.
