While the use of bisphenol A is prohibited in all food containers, manufacturers use other similar chemical substances instead, other bisphenols. According to UFC-Que Choisir, these similar chemical substances are also dangerous to health. The consumer association is sounding the alarm and calling on Wednesday for their ban on the manufacture of everyday products. There are dozens of bisphenols.

UFC-Que Choisir found these bisphenols, different from bisphenol A, in water bottles for children, teething rings for babies, tights, glasses, tin cans and soda cans. Each time, the consumer association has found large quantities, or bisphenols that it considers worrying, or even qualifies them as endocrine disruptors as dangerous to health as their cousin, bisphenol A.

In an article published last year on its website, ANSES, the Health Security Agency, is also concerned about these replacement bisphenols, some are suspected of having the same endocrine disrupting properties as bisphenol A Consequently, the UFC-Que Choisir calls for the prohibition in France and in Europe of these bisphenols in food packaging and products intended for children.
