Quebecer Georges St-Pierre announced Friday his return to competition on December 14, after a retirement of more than four years.
St-Pierre, who is 42 years old, confirmed the information through his social networks, specifying in passing that his return would be made as part of the “UFC Fight Pass Invitational”.
“Just when I thought it was over. They took me back (into the arena). Pro wrestling with submission and jiu-jitsu,” read a tweet posted to his official Twitter account, alongside a photo of the competition poster.
We do not know for the moment the identity of his opponent, nor the place of this fight.
In a video posted to the official “UFC Fight Pass” Twitter account on Thursday night, “GSP” said he decided to return to the arena because he missed the adrenaline of a fight, even as the energy of the cheering crowd.
St-Pierre, who is from Saint-Isidore, recently participated in a mixed martial arts training session with American billionaire Elon Musk. A photo showing him in his company has circulated on social networks in recent days.
The Quebecer has delivered 28 mixed martial arts fights throughout his impressive career in the UFC. He was notably the UFC welterweight champion in 2006, then from 2008 to 2013, the interim UFC welterweight champion in 2007 and 2008, and the middleweight champion of the UFC in 2017.
He officially announced his retirement from competition on February 21, 2019.
