The world of mixed martial arts is bereaved by the death of one of its excellent ex-combatants. Anthony “Rumble” Johnson died after a long illness on Sunday at the age of 38.

The Bellator organization made the announcement on Twitter. We do not know the nature of the health problem that got the better of the former athlete in the light heavyweight category. However, it was not related to COVID-19.
“The BELLATOR family is devastated by his untimely passing and we send our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time,” read a statement.
Last year, Johnson posted a message on Instagram asking for “as many prayers as possible” from his followers, revealing that he was battling an illness.
Johnson (23-6) last fought in May 2021. Recognized as a knockout specialist, he ended seven fights prematurely in his career.
