A devastating storm. The death toll from Typhoon Yagi has risen to 143 and 58 are missing in Vietnam, the Vietnamese government announced on Wednesday, September 11. Authorities did not specify whether this new toll included the landslide that left 22 dead and 73 missing. in a remote village in the mountainous province of Lao Cai.

The aftermath of Typhoon Yagi has forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate due to massive flooding, on a scale not seen for decades according to residents. Around 210,000 hectares of crops were destroyed, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

The storm made landfall Saturday morning near Haiphong before weakening Sunday. According to a recent study, typhoons in the region are now forming closer to shore, intensifying more quickly and staying over land longer due to climate change.
