The 30-year-old was at a friend’s house in Muskoka, Ont., when he questioned his professional life.

“I looked at my friend and I said to him: ‘I don’t know if I will be able to play again one day. My career may be over.’ I just couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel,” Seguin told the National Hockey League (NHL) website.

“Every time I go through dark times, every time I get depressed, I think back to when I was in Muskoka and where I was at that time. It allows me to keep moving forward.”

Seguin suffered a hip injury during the 2020 playoffs and was then limited to three games the following season. Last year, he had 24 goals and 25 assists for 49 points in 81 games. This is his worst campaign statistically since he wears the colors of the Stars. The Ontarian is also convinced that he will bounce back.

“I still think there’s no reason for me to be statistically where I was last year,” he said. I continue to think that, to believe in myself, and to work in this direction.

In five games so far in 2022-23, Seguin has hit the target twice and provided three assists for five points.
