Montreal Canadiens prospect Ty Smilanic will play next season in the ECHL with the Trois-Rivières Lions.
The 21-year-old American had failed to secure a position with the Laval Rocket, but the third division farm club offered him a contract, praising on Monday his “excellent work ethic” and “his good shot “skate”.
Acquired in the transaction that sent Ben Chiarot to the Florida Panthers in March 2022, Smilanic participated in the CH and Rocket training camps. He spent last season with the University of Wisconsin, where he was limited to two points in 14 games.
He was a third-round draft pick (74th overall) by the Panthers in 2020.
