A racist attack. A far-right activist and a student were convicted on Tuesday February 6 for racist group violence against three people, committed last week outside a nightclub in Lyon. “It is the trial of violent individuals driven by a racist ideology,” launched prosecutor Olivier Rabot.
Ex-spokesperson for the small ultra-right group Lyon c, Sinisha Milinov, 22 years old, was sentenced at the hearing for immediate appearances in Lyon to sixteen months of imprisonment including six months, with a warrant of committal to the bar. His partner, aged 21, was found guilty of having stabbed several times, seriously injuring two victims in the face, and was sentenced to thirty-six months’ imprisonment, including two years.
“A racist ideology”
The attack took place in the early morning of February 1, outside a bar in the Terreaux district, in the center of Lyon. After an initial altercation accompanied by a slap and racist insults, it continued outside and a fight broke out between a group of four individuals and the three victims of North African origin.
The prosecution had requested one year of imprisonment including six months with continued detention against Sinisha Milinov, considering that he had “held a preeminent role in the organization in this team”, and thirty months of imprisonment, including two years with a committal warrant for his comrade. The defendants, for their part, claimed to have been threatened and treated with “fascists”. The defense lawyers argued the thesis of “reciprocal violence”.
