Two years of war in Ukraine | An unexpected boom for the book market in Ukraine

The book market is far from having collapsed in Ukraine with the Russian invasion. On the contrary, it is experiencing growth. “None of the bookstores open in summer 2022 have closed. In addition, lots of new bookstores have emerged,” says the co-president of the Ukrainian literary media Chytomo Ira Baturevych, who recently went to Ukraine.

The largest bookstore chain in Ukraine, Ye, had 34 branches before the Russian invasion. Only last year she opened 20 new bookstores in Ukraine, says Mme Baturevych, who served as chairwoman of the development of the Book Institute of Ukraine.

The new Sens café-bookstore, which opened in 2022, has just opened its second store in downtown Kyiv, while the Stary Lev publishing house has launched a new café-bookstore in the capital, details t -She.

These openings arouse a certain enthusiasm: during the inauguration of the second store of the Vivat publishing house in Kharkiv on August 12, more than 2,000 people passed through the doors of the business in two days.
