After images of her discomfort went around the world, the swimmer returned to the American artistic swimming team. She is now preparing for the Olympic Games.
An inanimate swimmer at the bottom of the pool. Her trainer who appears and, in the space of a few seconds, brings her to the surface to save her life. Two years later, the two women are side by side in Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis) to prepare for the Olympic Games. Anita Alvarez, 27, returned to the pools after dozens of medical examinations, which concluded that she had simply fainted due to exertion and dehydration.
The one who came to his rescue, Andrea Fuentes, is a former Spanish Olympic swimmer. She has not forgotten this rescue. “I swam the fastest of my life. It was difficult because I had the clothes,” she says. For both women, this trauma had to be overcome. On August 5, Anita Alvarez will dive into the Saint-Denis swimming pool, with the hope of turning her story into a force to win her first Olympic medal.
