The facts date back to April 14 and it would have occurred on the Clichy bridge in the Hauts-de-Seine. Video of the scene circulated on social media. The version of the two women and that of the police differ widely.
Initially, it was the police who filed a complaint, Saturday April 16, 2022. The three officials filed a complaint for “contempt”, “rebellion in a meeting” and “violence on persons holding public authority”. The Prefecture of Police, in a Tweet, explained that the two women crossed the road, while the police patrol had “actuated the sound and light warning devices to control an offending vehicle”. In this tweet, the Prefecture of Police explains that “despite the urgency of the situation, the two women crossed the road outraged by the police and evaded control in the middle of a crowd which intervened”.
Following this complaint, the Nanterre Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation. But, this Thursday, April 21, the two young women filed a complaint in turn … against the police, advancing a very different version.
AFP was able to consult their complaint filed against X. The complaint is filed for “willful violence” and “public insult” by persons holding public authority. The two young women, aged 24 and 23, explain that they were crossing the pedestrian crossing when a police car activated the flashing lights, to “force the passage”. Also according to their account, the patrol car then “suddenly braked in the middle of the lane when arriving at their level”. A policeman would have come out, to carry out a check, and would then have struck “several slaps” to one of them. This also denounces a ventral tackle. Two policemen would also “tried to tear off the veil” of this one. Two other police officers are accused of having struck the second young woman in the back and chest, of having insulted her with “dirty bitch”, before she “don’t pass out”.
In their complaint, the two young women also denounce an identity check “illegal in form” because it is based on “the only distinctive element of the two young women”, namely the wearing of the hijab.
