Argentina: two very opposed candidates in the second round of the presidential election – (FRANCEINFO)
On Sunday, November 19, Argentines were called to the polls to elect their next president. The two finalist candidates, Javier Milei and Sergio Massa, are perfect opposites.
In 40 years of democracy, Argentina had never experienced such an indecisive presidential election. Nearly 36 million voters went to the polls on Sunday, November 19, to choose between Javier Milei and Sergio Massa. “I feel a big lack of perspective, which also leads to a lack of freedom of choice. I always choose the less worse of the two”confides an Argentinian.
143% inflation over one year
The two final candidates are perfect opposites. On the one hand, the extravagant Javier Milei, aged 53, describes himself as anti-system. In particular, he wants to ban abortion and liberalize the sale of arms. On the other side, the centrist Sergio Massa, aged 51, wants to build a government of national unity and restore the country’s economy. Argentina is plunged into an endless crisis, with inflation of 143% over one year.
