School violence: two teachers talk about their attacks
School violence: two teachers talk about their attacks – (France 2)
Students and many teachers are attacked in schools. A recent IFOP survey reveals that 72% of parents are worried about the deterioration of the situation. Two teachers give their testimony.
Jean-Marc Duport-Butique, a high school literature teacher, was beaten up by a group of teenagers on February 9, 2019, in Grenoble (Isère), in front of the Emmanuel Mounier high school. He suffered numerous physical after-effects, and still remembers a particularly violent attack. “I later learned that one of my students had recruited students from other establishments. It was an ambush“, indicates Jean-Marc Duport-Butique. The five minors were all convicted by the courts.
The inaction of National Education
The teacher regrets the lack of support from National Education. “At the time of the trial, the institution was not present at all“, he specifies. In 2019, another teacher was also a victim of violence. “First year, when I was an intern, an agitated student grabbed me and slammed me against the wall, violently“, remembers the German teacher. Frightened, she resigned after four years of practice. Above all, she deplores the lack of sanction and support from her superiors.
