Two-season contract | Blue Jays hire reliever Chad Green

(Toronto) Reliever and free agent Chad Green has signed a two-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, according to various media reports.

Sportsnet, The Athletic and Fantrax have all confirmed the deal worth US$8.5 million annually. The agreement would include different option clauses for Green and the Jays.

The right-hander had a solid start to the 2022 season with the New York Yankees, collecting 16 strikeouts in 15 innings of work while compiling a 3.00 earned run average.

He left the May 19 meeting with discomfort in his right forearm. Three days later, the Yankees announced he needed elbow ligament reconstruction.

The absence for such a surgical intervention is 12-18 months.

Green is 33-22 with a 3.17 ERA, 11 saves and 53 leads sustained. In seven seasons with the Yankees, he struck out 494 batters.
