Two resignations from the board of directors of Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe struggling with an internal crisis

The turmoil shaking the administration of the Cégep de St-Hyacinthe — under investigation by Quebec — carries away two members of the board of directors. A new interim director general is also taking over as head of the institution.

Augustin Brais and Pao Colonnese, respectively president and administrator of the board of directors, have submitted their resignation, confirmed the Cégep in a press release sent Tuesday at the end of the day.

The college, which welcomes some 5,000 students, also has a new interim director general in the person of Benoit Lessard.

Mr. Lessard has worked at Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe for 14 years as a teacher, then as assistant director of studies. Since 2021, he has worked as Director of Student Affairs and International Affairs. He is close to the previous managing director, Emmanuel Montini, according to information from the Duty.

The latter left his post on a temporary basis last week after the teachers unanimously called for his resignation because of the “unhealthy” work climate that would reign there.

Following Mr. Montini’s departure, Minister Déry’s office said it had “hope” that an interim director general will be appointed quickly, “in the best interest of the students”.
