Two Parisian police officers from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) were injured by gunfire on the night of Saturday July 1 to Sunday July 2 in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, franceinfo learned on Sunday from a source familiar with the matter. An investigation has been opened for “attempted voluntary homicide”, said the Paris prosecutor’s office.

The incident occurred shortly after two o’clock in the morning. According to a source familiar with the matter at franceinfo, the police then intervened in the Olympiades district, where detonations had been reported, corresponding to firework mortar fire.
An investigation for “attempted homicide”
According to their story, a first policeman was shot in the back, at the level of his bulletproof vest, before the second was also shot in the lower stomach, while he was protecting his colleague with his shield. The latter describes a wound one centimeter in diameter and says he heard other whistles suggesting that he had been targeted by other shots from the surrounding buildings.
Contacted by franceinfo, the Paris prosecutor’s office specifies that it has opened an investigation for “attempted homicide on a person holding public authority”, entrusted to the third district of the Paris judicial police.
