Two people were taken into custody on the evening of Monday 19 August after a man was stabbed to death in Verrières-en-Anjou, near Angers, in Maine-et-Loire, Angers public prosecutor Eric Bouillard reported to Radio France, confirming information from the newspaper. West FranceEmergency services were called at around 7:15 p.m. after a “altercation between two young people who know each other”.

Several young people were gathered in a house in Verrières-sur-Anjou, when “an explanation” broke out between two of them, a 24-year-old Mauritanian and a 22-year-old Malian, the prosecutor explains. The two went out into the street. When they did not return, three others went to meet them. They found the victim, the 24-year-old Mauritanian, on the ground, still alive, but he died quickly, explains Eric Bouillard.

The suspect, a 22-year-old Malian, fled by car with a 33-year-old driver. They were found not far from the scene by the police. Both were arrested and taken into custody. A medical examination of the victim’s body showed that he had several stab wounds to his chest. A knife was found near the body.
