Two men were taken into police custody on Wednesday June 21 as part of the investigation into the fire which targeted the home of the former mayor of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique). The two suspects, aged 48 and 63, “were arrested at their home in Brévinois” early in the morning, said Renaud Gaudeul, the public prosecutor of Nantes, confirming information from BFMTV.
On May 9, Yannick Morez had resigned with a bang from his mandate as mayor, explaining that he felt “abandoned” after personal attacks against him, which culminated on March 22 in the early morning with the burning of two vehicles of the elected official in front of his home, the facade of which had also burned down.
The two men in police custody are said to be close to the group of opponents of the installation of a reception center for asylum seekers near a school in the city, according to BFMTV and West France. The new mayor of Saint-Brevin, Dorothée Pacaud, also announced that she had filed several complaints against the “bullying” of the extreme right of which she claims to be a victim.
