Two men, aged 21 and 23, were sentenced on Friday January 14 by the criminal court of Lisieux (Calvados) to three and a half years in prison for the theft of 24 luxury cars during the second part of the year. 2021, reports France Bleu Normandie.
These two men were arrested on December 14, before being remanded in custody. All their car thefts were carried out during burglaries at private individuals in Calvados and Eure. A total of 24 cars were stolen for an estimated amount of 600,000 euros.
During their trial, the two men explained that the idea came to them after their time in prison inEvreux where they were incarcerated for thefts. According to them, they were forced to take action by sponsors whose identity they do not specify. Most of the time, these sponsors gave them the address of cars to steal in Calvados and Eure.
These cars were then taken to Sotteville-lès-Rouen (Seine-Maritime) where the plates were changed before the cars disappeared. The two men received between 500 and 2,000 euros per stolen car. In a few months, they were able to receive 7,000 and 10,000 euros for one, between 10,000 and 15,000 euros for the other. A third man was given a three-month suspended prison sentence for concealment.
