Following the violent clashes that took place during the demonstration on March 25 in Sainte-Soline (Deux-Sèvres), two men were brought before the prosecution, for an immediate appearance which will take place on Thursday June 22, a announced the public prosecutor of Niort in a press release. Their appearance was to take place at 1:30 p.m.
The first man, aged 42, is being prosecuted for “violence against soldiers of the national gendarmerie”. He is also accused of having “thrown projectiles and in particular stones at the gendarmerie”, states the statement. The defendant, who was convicted in the past, faces 14 years in prison.
Three other men released
The second, aged 27, has also already been sentenced. He faces seven years in prison.
A total of five men were taken into custody on Tuesday. The other three people were released with a summons for a correctional hearing on July 27. One of them is accused of having participated “to a group formed with a view to preparing violence against persons or destruction or damage to property”. The other two are being prosecuted for “aggravated concealment offence”.
