Two Marseille supporters were arrested Thursday in Marseille, on the sidelines of the round of 16 first leg match of the Europa League Conference, between Olympique de Marseille and Basel, learned franceinfo, from a police source. The overflows took place in front of the Vélodrome stadium, a few hours before the kick-off of the meeting. Two police officers were slightly injured.
In the early afternoon, around 1 p.m., the Basel supporters arrived in Marseille. But instead of dispersing to reach the stadium by bus, the Swiss gathered en masse in the city. They were then supervised by the police to take the metro to the stadium.
It was at the exit of the metro at the Prado roundabout, near the Vélodrome stadium, that Marseille supporters took on the Swiss. The police intervened. Tear gas was fired. Calm returned fairly quickly.
