Two brothers accused of having kidnapped their own sister, leading to the triggering of an Amber alert in Montreal, have given up their preliminary investigation in order to go directly to trial.

The two men, 23 and 24, who are charged with kidnapping, assault and forcible confinement, were absent when their case returned to court on Monday at the Montreal courthouse.

Detained since their arrest after the July 26 Amber alert, the two brothers in their twenties face charges including kidnapping, assault and forcible confinement.
Through the voice of their respective lawyers, they instead announced that they would go directly to trial to be tried for the crimes they allegedly committed in the summer of 2021 and which had put the police on alert.
A publication ban prevents the disclosure, at this time, of the details of the case as well as all the evidence presented by the Crown.
Particular fact, the victim who would have undergone the kidnapping had presented himself to the court in order to testify for the defense of his brother. As she was a minor at the time of the alleged facts, it is forbidden to name her, which also prevents the identity of her brothers from being revealed.
A third individual, aged 21, also faces charges in connection with this case.
The trio of defendants will return to court in January to set a date for their trial.
