Seine-Saint-Denis: two investigations opened after the death of an 18-year-old young man

(FRANCEINFO)

On the evening of Wednesday March 13, an 18-year-old young man died after being hit on his scooter by a police vehicle following a refusal to comply, in Aubervilliers, in Seine-Saint-Denis.

Traces of the accident are still visible, including traces of blood and a sunken truck against which the scooter ended its course. On the evening of Wednesday March 13, around 9 p.m., the scooter was nothing more than a pile of sheet metal in Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis). Half an hour earlier, the driver of the two-wheeler and his passenger, wearing helmets, refused to comply with the police who immediately chased them. Another BAC crew, warned by radio, turned on its flashing lights and tried to intercept them. According to Grégory Goupil, deputy secretary of Alliance Police 93, the scooter found itself facing a police vehicle before being hit.

An investigation entrusted to the IGPN

The driver, in cardiac arrest, died a few hours later. The injured passenger was first taken into police custody before being hospitalized. His version differs from that of the police officers, and a witness present at the time of the collision claims that the police vehicle blocked his way. The Bobigny public prosecutor’s office (Seine-Saint-Denis) has opened two investigations. A first was opened for aggravated refusal to comply on the part of the two young people aged 18 and 19. A second was entrusted to the IGPN.
