Two investigations launched by the SPVM for collision and intoxicated people

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) launched investigations this afternoon concerning a collision between a motorist and pedestrians as well as four cases of intoxication with unknown substances.

The first event occurred early in the afternoon, on Chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse, near rue Hébert, in the Saint-Laurent borough.

Several calls were made to 911 around 2:35 p.m., reporting that a motorist had left the parking lot of a business before skidding and hitting a woman who was on the sidewalk. The car then allegedly hit a lamp post, causing it to fall and injuring a man in the process.

“A command post has been established on site,” confirms Jeanne Drouin, spokesperson for the SPVM. A security perimeter has been established on chemin de la Côte-de-Liesse between rue Houde and rue Sainte-Croix.

Ms. Drouin specifies that the victims, a 19-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, were quickly transported to a hospital center and are said to be in critical condition. “Witnesses on site were also treated for shock,” she adds.

The driver is a 28-year-old man who was not reported to have been injured in the collision. He was transported to an operational center to meet investigators and he could face charges, according to the SPVM.

Poisoning with unknown substances

The SPVM is also investigating poisoning with unknown substances in the Ville-Marie district.

Around 4:10 p.m., the police and Urgences-santé were called to report people overdosing at the intersection of Saint-Dominique and Ontario Est streets. Four people were taken to hospital and the lives of two of them are feared.

“A perimeter has been established on site and SPVM investigators will travel to analyze the scene, try to understand the circumstances and try to prevent this type of event,” indicates Jeanne Drouin. This is not a criminal investigation.
