To clean up the air, Matthieu Gobbi, managing director of the Aérophile company, had the idea of ​​measuring pollution from a balloon. “We saw that these fine particles, therefore this carbon, were deposited on the canvas of the balloon and soiled it very quickly. We discovered a system which makes it possible to get rid of these particles”, he explains. This machine is a world first. It sucks in polluted air and then spits out clean air.

In the laboratory, the machine removes 99% of fine particles. These are placed on the plates of the machine. In Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône), tree species effective in eliminating fine particles and toxic gases have been planted. The 408 trees go “allow an estimated reduction of one premature death per year and a reduction of ten hospitalizations for cardiovascular and respiratory causes”says Pierre Sicard, researcher and director of the Airfresh project.
