Two hunters were taken into custody after an accidental shooting at a car in Dordogne, during a wild boar hunt on October 22, France Bleu Périgord reported on Friday November 17. The alleged shooter and the hunt director of the hunting party were taken into police custody on November 10. They walked out free after their hearing.

The case became public after a photo was posted on Facebook by a motorist’s partner showing a shattered windshield and an impact from what appeared to be a shotgun bullet in the rear bodywork. Once alerted by this publication, the OFB (French Biodiversity Office) began investigations to try to understand what happened. The Périgueux public prosecutor’s office took up the matter.

The mayor was part of the fight

According to the first elements of the investigation, a hunter in his sixties, finding himself alone on the side of a road in Dordogne on October 22 at the end of the morning, near Chapelle-Aubareil, fired a few moments after the passage of a car. The bullet ended up in the passenger seat of the Peugeot 307 after passing through the trunk body and the rear seat.

The driver of the car, was also heard as his partner who was not in the car, but who revealed the affair. This is also the case for the mayor of La Chapelle-Aubareil, who participated in this hunt with around fifteen other hunters, but did not witness the accident. Other investigations must be carried out in the coming days as part of this open investigation, for the moment, for “endangering the lives of others by a deliberate failure to comply with an obligation of prudence or safety”.
