Two women held hostage by Hamas were released on Monday October 23. They testified about their conditions of detention.

Yocheved Lifschitz is one of the two hostages released by Hamas on Monday evening, October 23. The two octogenarians were kidnapped from the same kibbutz on October 7. They left Gaza via the Egyptian border. Hamas says it released them for humanitarian reasons, with the mediation of Egypt and Qatar. Their loved ones were relieved to find them in good health.

At least 220 people are still detained

“My mother says they hit her with a stick. Then they made them walk several kilometers through the tunnels (…) they shared the same meals as Hamas”, explains Sharone Lifschitz, daughter of Yocheved Lifschitz. She and her husband had been caring for sick children in Gaza for years. Her husband is still in the hands of Hamas. On Tuesday, October 24, the Israeli army dropped leaflets over the Gaza Strip promising a reward for information. At least 220 people are still detained in Gaza.
