Two French oncologists launched a free application at the end of 2020 to allow cancer patients to participate in clinical trials more easily. Called OncoClic’, it is intended for doctors. They can, in a few clicks, find a clinical trial suitable for their patient.

“We have created an algorithm that allows us to offer the investigating doctor, on his phone and in less than a minute, a clinical trial perfectly adapted to his patient”, presents Jean-Baptiste Fumet, co-founder of the site. “Then, he will be able via the application to send his patient to the hospital center in question, so that he can benefit from the innovation.”

The two oncologists of the anti-cancer center of Dijon started from a striking observation: less than 5% of patients participate in a clinical trial while they are very numerous to be applicants, since these trials often make it possible to benefit from the best treatments. possible. What we do not necessarily know is that clinical trials are aimed at all patients, not just the most affected. “We thought it had to be as easy to include a patient in a clinical trial as ordering a pizza on an app or looking for a scooter on the right corner”, explains Jean-Baptiste Fumet.

The application, successfully tested in Dijon, has won over four other healthcare establishments which will open their clinical trials to patients referred to them via Oncoclic. The site will cover the whole of France at the beginning of March.
