Two skiers died Thursday, December 28 after an avalanche near the Saint-Gervais resort, at the foot of Mont-Blanc (Haute-Savoie), France Bleu Pays de Savoie learned from the prefecture. The report also shows “one lightly injured and five other people unharmed”, she specifies. The skiers were hit by the 400 meter long avalanche early in the afternoon, while they were “off-piste area at 2,300 meters altitude”depending on the prefecture.

The search was carried out by rescuers from the Chamonix and Annecy gendarmerie platoons, assisted by trackers from the Saint-Gervais station. An investigation was opened by the Bonneville public prosecutor’s office to determine the causes of this avalanche.

A fatal fall in Isère

In Isère, a 31-year-old young man suffered a fatal fall in the Écrins massif. The victim had left “off trail with a friend to go see the chamois”, from a rocky bar in the town of Chantepérier, indicated the PGHM (high mountain gendarmerie platoon) of Grenoble. The other hiker, aged 26, was able to be evacuated and was unhurt.
