Two dead, five injured in Kabul minibus explosion

(Kabul) At least two people were killed and five injured on Wednesday when a bomb exploded in a minibus in Kabul, a Taliban official was told.

The explosion took place in the west of the Afghan capital, in the district of Dasht-e-Barchi, the official told AFP, who did not want to disclose his identity. It is a district of the Hazara Shiite minority.

This is the second time in less than a week that this area has been targeted by this kind of attack: on November 13, a journalist was killed and four people injured in a similar explosion. The Islamic State organization claimed responsibility for the attack.

“According to our first information, the bomb was on the minibus. We have launched an investigation, ”added the Taliban official.

“I heard a huge explosion, when I looked around, a minibus and a taxi were on fire,” said an AFP employee, who witnessed the explosion. “I also saw ambulances rushing into the area to take the wounded and dead to the hospital.”

Since coming to power on August 15, the Taliban, who have made the return to security in the country their priority after decades of war, have faced a wave of attacks carried out by jihadists of the Islamic State group.

Its local branch, the Islamic State-Khorasan (EI-K), rival and main opponent of the ruling Islamist movement, has targeted both the Taliban and the Afghan Shiite minority in recent weeks.
