Two forty-year-olds died at the beginning of March in Bordeaux, in Gironde, due to their drug consumption during the same “chemsex” evening. And two other people were put in a coma for the same reasons a few days later after taking drugs on two other nights. What France Bleu Gironde learned on Wednesday March 20 from the Bordeaux public prosecutor’s office, partially confirming information from BFMTV.

Three separate investigations

The Bordeaux public prosecutor’s office has opened a total of three different investigations into these facts. “Chemsex” is a contraction of the English words “chemical” and “sexuality” and consists of combining the practice of sex and the taking of drugs.

The two dead were discovered on Tuesday March 12 in an apartment in the Saint-Michel district of the city. It was the residents of the building who called the police when a strong odor was emanating from the accommodation. Inside, emergency services discovered the lifeless bodies of two men aged around forty, obviously dead for several days due to their consumption of narcotics.

“It emerged from the initial investigations that the two victims had been in a relationship for more than 3 years and consumed narcotics such as GHB and 3MMC”explains the Bordeaux public prosecutor’s office in a press release. “Toxicological and anatomo-pathological analyzes were ordered and the results are still pending”. For this case, an investigation for “manslaughter” was opened.

Two other people hospitalized

Three days later, on Friday March 15, a man was discovered “alone and unconscious by cleaning staff in an apartment in Bordeaux”. He was released from the hospital the next day. “A fan of “chemsex”, he admitted to organizing parties for this purpose and selling narcotics since 2021”. The prosecution specifies that he will be tried on April 22, notably for acquisition of narcotics.

On Saturday March 16, “a man living in Bordeaux felt unwell at his home while he was in the company of two men”adds the prosecution. “The two individuals were interviewed and declared having consumed 3MMC with the victim. On site, the presence of narcotics such as 3MMC, ketamine and poppers confirmed the theory of consumption of toxic products.” For this case, an investigation into counts of drug trafficking and involuntary injuries was opened.
