Two children, a brother and a sister aged 7 and 12, died drowned in a basin on Friday February 17 in the Eure, reports France Bleu Normandie. The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. Friday. Three children, brothers and sisters, were playing “near a water hole or reservoir” in a private property in Grand-Bourgtheroulde, indicates the parquet floor of Evreux. Two of them fell into the water: the 7-year-old boy and his 12-year-old big sister.
The assistant prosecutor of Évreux, Sandrine Ballanger, clarified that she did not know “if they jumped in the water or if they slipped” before adding that it was “the hypothesis of the accident which was privileged.”
It was their 5-year-old little sister who warned their parents. The father then pulled the children out of the water. Once there, the firefighters were unable to do anything. The SMUR doctor then confirmed the deaths. The investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie company of Pont-Audemer. The family had settled in the town in October 2022. The parents, in a state of shock, were taken care of.
